Our client is seeking to appoint key supply chain professionals in the contract sourcing and procurement areas. The roles all report into the Supply Chain Manager, and then the Director of Supply Chain. The Mining and Operations facilities are extensive, with over 6000 local and international staff working across the facilities. The operation is only 10km drive to a coastal beachside township of over 250,000 people, with local culture and vibrancy of Africa with a strong French influence in the architecture and local restaurants. You will be provided with a high standard of accommodation. There is strong preference for candidates who have proven African/Asian or development country experience who understand the unique challenges to get outcomes vs tier one western only background experience.
The Category Superintendent roles will be split between the ‘Mining Goods’ Category, which covers more technical equipment, mining and engineering supplies such as valves, electrical and mechanical processing, HME, pumps, mobile equipment and tyres. The ‘Services’ Category is more focused on labor, maintenance, administrative and security contracts and other people services). These roles require commercial acumen and strategic management, contracting and negotiation skills, through to coaching and oversight of 5-8 staff per Category role, so hands on coaching and sharing category management of higher value areas will be expected.
The Purchasing Superintendent role leads and coaches a team of 20 purchasing officers and expediters, so a larger team, all working together to purchase lower value high turnover goods and common services, through to ensuring delivery on time and quality of orders. You will need proven high activity purchasing experience ideally within an industrial, mining or related sector.
French speaking would be advantageous, but English only is acceptable, ideally with experience in working in a heavy infrastructure/mining environment. You will be a proven leader, hands on and enjoy making commercial and value based decisions, coaching and mentoring, and have resilience and a capacity to engage and work within a developing country and multinational workforce.
Initial contract of employment will be 4 months; 2 rotations of 7 weeks on and 3 weeks off. Remuneration will be a day rate payable while on-site, with 3 weeks off at your cost and discretion. Subject to performance, the opportunity exists for an offer to be made for a 2-3 year engagement. Initially it is preferred to contract work as a rotational worker, with accommodation on site. If longer term opportunity is provided on a residential basis, separate housing in the company’s village is provided.
