About the job:
Exelon seeks applications from interested candidates to fill the position of Equipment Operators/Entry level operators at our R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant. The date for this position is July 2017, and all applications must be accompanied with resumes which can be uploaded in either pdf or word format. Position Summary:
The equipment operator position is an entry level hands-on position which falls within the Operations, job family. This position can lead to becoming a licensed Reactor Operator and Senior Reactor Operator which can lead you to the highest levels of the Nuclear industry.
All selected candidates will be required to enter one year of initial non-licensed operator training. The successful completion of it will earn the selected candidates shift duties on an operations team. This shift work position requires mandatory rotating day and night shifts.
Main Responsibilities:
The qualified candidate will be responsible for:
- Starting, stopping, controlling, monitoring nuclear reactors and auxiliary reactor systems, as required for plant operations, including taking manual control of equipment as conditions warrant.
- Starting, stopping, controlling and monitoring steam turbine, main generator and auxiliary turbine generating equipment as required to maintain maximum station capability as well as taking manual control of equipment as conditions may warrant.
- Starting, stopping, adjusting, testing and operating pumps, valves, switchgear, controls and other components of systems as directed.
- Monitoring recorders and indicators within the control room for the nuclear and turbine generator systems for operations within the prescribed limits for the purpose of ensuring the safety of the workers.
- Obtaining review data and performing various calculations as required by procedures.
- Responding with designated actions to plant indicators and alarms by plant procedures as well as identifying all the parameters that indicate an emergency condition.
- Performing operations by administrative procedures and NRC license including Shift turnovers, log maintenance, etc.
- Responding with actions with a purpose of mitigating the consequences of plant transient through the knowledge of entry conditions and cautions for the emergency operating procedures.
- Taking the basic steps required in case an abnormal event or emergency takes place including an ability to operate abnormal event procedures and ensure system diagnostic with a knowledge of the restoration procedures.
- Functioning as a member as well as the fire brigade leader of a station fire brigade.
- Taking part in the shift supervision in the performance of any and all of the duties involved in directing and coordinating the actions of the other personnel assigned to assist in the operation of the station.
- Identifying and correcting deficient conditions through the use of station Corrective Action program and the initiation of action request for material condition issues as well as the submission of Procedure change requests.
- Initiating Emergency Plan by implementing the procedure.
- Implementing tagging and system out-of-service requests as well as directing others to realign valves, rack out breakers and hang tags.
- Manipulating controls, drives and other parts as the case may be, observing nuclear and radiation monitoring instruments by procedural control ensuring the safety of the workers during the refueling of the reactor/. The candidate may be required to assist in the refueling as the case may be.
- Operating station communications equipment as required in the interest of the company.
Qualifications:
An applicant must have at least one of the following qualifications to be employed for this job:
- A High School Diploma with two years operations experience at a generating facility, one of which must be nuclear operations experience.
- Documented Navy Nuclear Training and experience apply to power generation operating experience. Navy Applicants will be required to provide occupation/training awards history, DD214, and fitness and counseling evaluations with social security numbers and medical documentation removed.
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or any related science program.
- An Associates of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or any related science program.
Testing Requirement:
- Applicant must pass the Plant Operator Selection System (POSS) Examination and the Basic Maths and Science Test (BMST).
- Applicant must be able to obtain an unescorted access to a nuclear generating facility.
