Description
There is a vacant role for an ICT Infrastructure Senior Systems Administrator at CSIR, located in Pretoria. The candidate qualified for this role is to take responsibility for ensuring the availability, accessibility, and utilization of infrastructure, which would be in line with the business needs CSIR for networks, server, applications, and desktop disciplines.
Main responsibilities:
- Implementing operational changes to the infrastructure and applications of the ICT to ensure the release authorization is complied with properly
- Overseeing the administration of the back office to ensure monitoring of the server or service and administration properly, back-ups and scheduling of jobs according to the needs of the business and the best practice standards of the ICT
- Monitoring and reporting on the capacity thresholds of the infrastructure of the ICT to ensure it is available and accessible by SLA’s
- Monitoring and reporting on the availability of services and systems to ensure the ICT infrastructure are available and accessible by SLA’s
- Maintaining the proper configuration of the data center to ensure that the ICT infrastructure is available and accessible by SLA’s
- Providing a specialized technical analysis and support to ensure the internal and external services are effective
- Implementing the infrastructure and application of ICT related to the relevant disciplines as and when required by the Projects team of the ICT Infrastructure to ensure that the infrastructure is available, accessible, and utilized in line with the business needs of CSIR
- Contributing to the infrastructure projects of the ICT wherever required to ensure the required quality of output is produced within time, cost, and given constraints
- Providing guidance and technical leadership related to the ICT infrastructure operation and configuration for the development of the junior staff
- Participating as part of the ICT Operations team in the reviewing and development of the ICT standards and procedures, and best practices required to ensure that the infrastructure is available, accessible, and utilized in line with the business needs of CSIR
Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or an Industry Certification, with a minimum of 6 years’ experience in the field. The Certifications should include either CNE-NW or NE OES
- A Master’s Degree included to the certifications mentioned above is an advantage
- Experience administering and solving problems on NetWare, Linux; such as Redhat and SLES, Microsoft Server systems, e-Directory, GroupWise and Backup solutions
- Experience in administering and solving problems on Microsoft Servers hosting the PeopleSoft application is a plus
- A sound technical knowledge of networks, desktop, and other relevant interface ICT systems and disciplines
- An MIS knowledge, with basic skills in project management and reporting
- A good knowledge of process control, enhancement, and continuous improvement processes
- Excellent skills in leadership, communication, and people management
