Library Preparation Sales Specialist

You will be responsible for driving increased Illumina Library Preparation consumables usage, largely by reducing customer ramp times and focusing on full “sample to answer” solutions. The Specialist will also help to accelerate Neoprep, MiSeq and NextSeq system sales and pull through and build a community of satisfied customers. Both pre- and post-sales activities will be carried out to increase awareness of the solutions provided by Illumina in this area and familiarize customers with associated applications and workflows.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

Focus on providing a full sample to answer solution for new and existing customers
Pre-sales activity will include delivery of technical expertise during the sales process including consultation on applications, assay design and data analysis / interpretation.
Working closely with existing territory account managers and sales specialists to drive sample prep sales with each instrument sale and ensuring a rapid “time to implementation” of new sample preparation solutions.
Execution of an average of two technical presentations each week on the Library Preparation portfolio, applications and/or workflow.
Working with customers post system installation and initial training by Field Applications Scientist to provide additional training on sample preparation workflow.
Supporting and training customers on assay design and the use of DesignStudio to accelerate adoption of targeted sequencing. Support activities will include checking unsuccessful designs submitted by customers
Conducting post-installation system reviews with customers within 1 month of installation to define whether any further assistance is required
Monitoring consumables usage rates across desktop system install base and implementing corrective action at sites where usage is low
Attendance at tradeshows/conferences
Organisation and execution of User Group Meetings in collaboration with field marketing and Customer Services
Assisting sales and field marketing on new strategic initiatives requiring both technical and market knowledge
Providing strategic and competitive feedback to field marketing
Working jointly with Marketing Technical Specialists to coordinate local collaborations and share information with Regional Marketing Manager
Working collaboratively with sales, service and support to ensure effective account/customer management and communication through pre-sales – installation – post-sales cycle
Escalation of technical issues to Technical Support for resolution
Developing and maintaining positive relationships with customers in assigned territory
Representing the company professionally, ethically and morally at all times, adhering to Illumina's Values

Significant biotech experience preferred
Must be willing to travel up to 60%
Prior field experience supporting customers in a highly technical field preferred
Recognized deep technical expertise in sequencing and sample preparation
Demonstrated knowledge of solution based sample prep sales situations
Demonstrated familiarity of working in clinical and regulated markets
Independently works on highly complex problems requiring analysis of multiple variables
Uses independent judgment in developing methods, techniques or evaluation criteria for obtaining results
Demonstrated written and verbal communication and training skills
Demonstrated understanding of commonly-used bioinformatics tools and programs preferred
Demonstrated superior problem solving and interpersonal skills in a customer facing environment
Prior role requiring clear vision of and commitment to providing outstanding customer service
Experience in a direct sales role desirable but not essential
