Description
We seek the service of an individual that will serve as the Ready Mix Quality Control Manager who will be saddled with the responsibility of developing, implementing and managing quality control processes designed to ensure continuous production of high quality Ready Mix Concrete in the safest manner possible. The successful candidate will be able to cope and be consistent with established standards, customer specification, and production goals. The position is also saddled with the function of supervising a team of quality control technicians.
Main Responsibilities:
- Ensuring that Martin Marietta safety and environmental policies are maintained.
- Working with the QC Management Team for the development of quality control objectives.
- Being responsible for the implementation and audit of those objectives at local concrete plants in the Colorado Springs business area.
- Being responsible for all day to day supervision of QC staff and activities with no limitation to scheduling and training technicians as well as calibration and maintenance of QC equipment and facilities.
- Reviewing and communicating test results of equipment as the case may be.
- Ensuring that all necessary material is tested, documented into the appropriated QC software, and reviewed promptly.
- Communicating result Upon review of data, to the necessary people quarters as needed to address reporting compliance, assisting with and troubleshoot production processes.
- Maintaining product quality and consistency in a cost effective way.
- Coordinating with sales or estimators, operations and dispatch to establish targets that consistently meet customer specifications as well as conducting necessary investigation to resolve any product or customer related issues.
- Interacting frequently with operations or production groups at the concrete plants to resolve any process and quality issues.
- Developing a better understanding of the equipment and process used to make the products.
- Providing recommended plant adjustments to maintain or improve product quality as needed.
- Meeting with specifying entities on a regular basis with the aim of maintaining good relationships and awareness of changes in industry standards.
- Developing rapport with those entities to drive specification changes, as necessary, as well as supporting sound concrete QA practices in the field.
- Meeting the customer frequently to get a better understanding of their needs in conjunction with the sale team.
- Providing training where necessary to correct concrete placing and finishing practices.
- Adjusting mixes within allowable internal and external guidelines and specifications to meet specific needs they may have on specialized projects.
- Providing project support for sales or estimators by reviewing plans and specifications before project bidding as well as providing required data and document for material submittals post bid.
- Driving changes to promote the production of high quality concrete by aligning departmental efforts within the business.
- Monitoring inbound raw material for quality and consistency as well as acting quickly to address out spec materials to prevent field concrete failures.
- The monitoring performance concrete mix design and quickly addressing low break reports.
- Maintaining a program of auditing poor field concrete curing processes.
- Conducting Employee Performance Evaluations for all direct reports.
- Performing other related tasks as may be assigned by the management.
Skills and experience:
- A Minimum of five years’ industry experience.
- Two years of supervisory experience and experience with CDOT or other DOT regulations.
- A safety-minded, team-oriented, customer focused, detailed and technically oriented individual.
- Ability to read and understand technical plans and specifications as may be required.
- Being self-motivated with ability to perform duties with minimal supervision
- Excellent time management skills, good planning skills, and Microsoft computer skills are required.
- Long hours, weekend and night work if possible.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in an outdoor setting under varying weather conditions as the case may be.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is preferred.
