Teranga gold offers the position of Senior Management Accountant who will report to the site controller as well as become a member of the management team within our finance department at our mine site in Senegal. The focus will be on the management of information which includes the generation of operating cost variance reports and capital expenditure reports that are reviewed via cost review meetings conducted on a monthly basis as well as ensuring various ad hoc expenditure analysis of operating and capital cost.

The site finance department focuses on the accurate and timely generation of management information for all department on site. The department is saddled with the activities of coordinating and consolidating the capital expenditure budgeting process and annual operating cost as well as the subsequent quarterly forecasting of operating and capital expenditure. The department also interacts and provides feedback to the corporate office during the preparation of quarterly operating and expenditure reporting, budgeting and forecasts.

Main Responsibilities:

- Managing and supervising the activities of the Site Finance Department.
- Coordinating activities of the management accounting team for the preparation of the periodical management information.
- Planning and coordinating the availability of resources required to complete critical monthly, quarterly and annual forecasting and reporting.
- Planning and coordinating the preparation of the annual budget process to achieve milestones.
- Aligning objectives of the management accounting with the administration department and site objectives respectively.
- Assisting project leaders with the financial evaluation and motivation of Capital expenditure applications like NPV and IRR.
- Coordinating the approval process of Capital expenditure projects between the site and corporate.
- Reporting activities as directed and assigned.
- Ensuring the generation of timely and accurate actual vs budget cost variance reports and monthly cost review meetings with departmental heads.
- Producing quality reports that highlight problem high-cost areas that require senior management’s urgent attention.
- Encouraging regular feedback from heads of department to improve cost variance and efficiency reporting.
- Implementing and generating mining equipment performance reports and investigate deviations from fleet averages.
- Compiling quarterly forecast of revenue, operating cost and capital expenditure for presentation to corporate.
- Ensuring the generation of capital expenditure statements on a monthly basis.
- Liaising with project leaders to address projected overruns on estimated project expenditure.
- Compiling narratives for quarterly reporting to corporate.
- Ensuring internal controls of data and other documents as the case may be.
- Ensuring the maintenance of internal sound controls by ensuring:
• The proper segregation of duties through employee roster management
• The frequent review of account reconciliations
• Effective control of eft and cheque signatory.
• The update of internal control register on a continuous basis.
• The review of internal control audit reports and response as may be required.
• Implementation of remedial action as required to rectify identified inadequate internal controls.
- Ensuring team development by:
• Identifying and motivating candidates for the department’s succession planning program.
• Mentoring, training and coaching members of the department to enhance overall team skills development.
• Ensuring the audits of the group’s financial documents.
• Conducting regular audits of the fixed asset.
• Participating in ad-hoc projects and initiatives.

Education:

- A university diploma or its equivalent degree qualification in finance or accounting discipline.
- A recognized accounting designation.

Experience and Skills:

- A minimum five years’ relevant experience with at least three years’ experience in an audit company or mining company
- Ability to coach and mentor team members of diverse backgrounds as well being able to demonstrate people management experience.
- Strong collaboration and relationship building skills
- Great documentation and presentation skills
- Excellent leadership and management skills with proven ability to motivate and empower the team.
- Strong cultural sensitivity and ability to execute work successfully in a different culture and location.
- Great analytical, organizational, communication and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English and ability to interact effectively with employees and government officials.
- Communication skills in Yoruba is an asset

Terms of contract:

- A fly-in and fly-out role.
- Eight weeks on or 4 weeks off the roster with travel in company time.
